Rangers close to agreeing Morelos exit, £10.3m deal plus £4.2m bonuses
Rangers and Porto are close to agreeing terms for Alfredo Morelos’ transfer to Portugal, according to A Bola.
The Portuguese news outlet claims that Morelos’ agent Michael Gorman was in Porto on Thursday to thrash out terms between the Champions League clubs.
It is understood that a “transfer is close” with Rangers and Porto potentially agreeing a deal that would see Porto pay an initial £10.3million fee plus an extra £4.2million in bonuses.
However, A Bola suggests that the Portuguese giants may have to sell one of their attacking players first before they can land the 25-year-old Colombia international.
Is El Bufalo actually leaving?
We’ve seen a lot of transfer rumours about Morelos over the last few years.
After such a stunning start to life at Ibrox in 2017 when he joined from HJK Helsinki, he was almost instantly linked with a move to England
Since then, we’ve had to cope with transfer window after transfer window of hearing about how teams south of the border and across Europe have wanted to sign the Colombian goal machine.
However, he stuck around and he continued to stick the ball in the back of the net.
Morelos is now a title-winner at Rangers and is set for a campaign in the Champions League.
While some Gers fans feel as though Morelos should stay so he can play in Europe’s elite competition – he can also do that at Porto.
At Porto, he can also win titles. He can win silverware. He can almost guarantee Champions League group stage football every year. He can probably also guarantee more money for himself and a bigger platform to catch the eye of even bigger clubs in Europe.
If the fee that A Bola mentions is correct then we’re underwhelmed. However, it seems as though an overall fee of £14.5million could go the way of Ibrox.
It’s not awful – but it’s not great.
