Alex McLeish reacts to Josh McPake & Rangers exit

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has insisted that Rangers talent Josh McPake moving to Morecambe on loan will make him a man.

The young attacker signed a new contract at Ibrox before moving and making another step up in level.

McLeish believes that playing at a higher level against more experienced players will only help his development.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “He’s going up a level.

“It’s a strong league playing in England, it’s very, very competitive and it could easily make a man of you.

“For me, playing against these experienced players, they will certainly teach you a lot of lessons, it’s another step up the ladder.

Make a man.

This will certainly do McPake the world of good for his career.

Having signed a new two-year contract at Ibrox, the attacker will need to prove himself here to show Steven Gerrard he has what it takes to succeed.

Jordan Jones was sent to Sunderland in the same league last season, so it is clearly a level above what he is used to.

We are intrigued to see how he develops, but McPake will certainly need to do more than he did last season at Harrogate.

The 19-year-old only scored four times in his 23 appearances, and Gerrard will be pushing him to hit double figures – time will tell.
