Rangers should go all out to sign Joey Veerman

Joey Veerman has admitted that he could see himself leaving Heerenveen, with Rangers being linked with a move for him, according to the Scottish Sun, and he could be a fantastic addition for the Gers.

The 22-year-old has drawn the attention of some of the Netherlands’ biggest clubs, but according to Football Oranje, they have been put off by Heerenveen’s asking price of 12m Euros (£10.3m).

However, the Gers are apparently still interested in signing Veerman, and his latest interview with ESPN could be seen as a boost for Rangers in their pursuit of him.

He said: “It’s just what kind of club comes along. I think it will be very difficult in the Netherlands, so there’s only one thing to do.

“As it looks now, I’m still at Heerenveen, and I’m doing my best, and nothing else is going on there.”

Veerman had an absolutely stellar campaign in the Eredivisie during the 2020/21 season as he scored seven goals and provided ten assists in 31 appearances [WhoScored].

These are impressive numbers for a man Michael Mols described as ‘perfect’ in an interview with the Daily Record. These numbers would put him in fifth place and top place in Rangers’ squad, respectively [WhoScored].

Aad de Mos speaking to Omrop Fryslan claimed that the 22-year-old can ‘decide games on his own’ and who wouldn’t want a player like that in their squad?

The Gers might have plenty of options in midfield, but Veerman is better than most of them in some key statistics.

No Rangers central midfielder scored more goals than Veerman or provided more assists.

Veerman also provided 1.9 key passes per game, which is more than any of the Gers’ options in the centre of midfield.

So, the statistics tell their own story, and it is clear that Veerman is a prime player going forward, and defensively, he averaged 1.9 tackles per game.

He really is the ultimate all-action midfielder and could be an excellent addition to Steven Gerrard’s side.

The fee at £10.31m is quite steep, but he would be worth every penny, and this is a deal that the Gers have to complete.

In other Rangers news, Ibrox star ‘close’ to leaving the Gers with a fee nearly agreed.
