Rangers send Glen Middleton back on loan to St Johnstone
Rangers have agreed to send forward Glenn Middleton to St Johnstone for another loan spell ahead of next season, according to The Scottish Sun.
The 21-year-old impressed with the Saints on loan during the second half of last season, and manager Callum Davidson is keen to have him back.
Middleton now looks to be on his way back to Perth and will hope to have an outstanding campaign, with playing for Rangers still on his mind.
While the Scotland youth international was looking forward to spending next season with Rangers [Daily Record], it appears manager Steven Gerrard does not have him in his plans yet.
Ryan Kent and Ianis Hagi are still very much around, and that would limit Middleton’s playing chances and his development should he spend the new campaign at Ibrox.
The winger scored thrice in 13 games for Johnstone, helping them win the Scottish Cup having bagged the second goal in their 2-1 win over St. Mirren in the semi-finals.
Middleton also won two Premiership games for the Saints on his own, scoring the only goals in the 1-0 wins over Ross County and Hibs.
He recently sent a message to Gerrard, asking him to trust him ‘to do the job’ if given the chance next season [Daily Record].
We understand his eagerness to prove himself in the Light Blues colours after last term’s achievements, but he needs to do so at Perth once more.
Middleton has spent the last two campaigns away from Ibrox, and while stints at Hibs and English League Two outfit Bradford City did not go as planned, he was in fine form under the double Cup winners and would hope to excel again next season.
He needs to prove that he has a future at Rangers, and we will be keeping a keen eye on him again next term.
