Alex McLeish urges Josh McPake to stay in Scotland if Rangers loan exit sealed
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has urged Rangers talent Josh McPake to stay in Scotland next season if he wants another loan move.
The young Bears talent has been linked with moves to the likes of Doncaster, Morecambe and Motherwell [The Sun].
McLeish believes that the rough and tumble of Scotland could be critical for him, and a switch to Fir Park would be “absolutely brilliant.”
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “The Premiership in Scotland is very difficult.
“A lot of top players have said ‘wow’ Scotland really made me, players such as Virgil van Dijk, the rough and tumble made him.
“McPake could seal an absolutely brilliant move to Motherwell.”
It has since been reported that McPake is closing in on a loan switch to Morecambe, something that could be a big mistake.
Motherwell would have handed the young winger the chance to shine in Scotland and prove to the Bears that he has what it takes.
Instead, he will once again go to England, where it will be easy to drift under the radar and become somewhat of a forgotten player at Ibrox.
Glenn Middleton has shined at St Johnstone in the past year, and with another move there lined up this year, he could be ready to smash into the first-team picture after.
McPake is clearly miles behind that, and looks set to miss out on a potentially game-changing move to Fir Park.
