Peterborough United want Rangers centre-back George Edmundson
English Championship newcomers Peterborough United want Rangers centre-back George Edmundson this summer, according to Daily Record.
They were also keen on the 23-year-old when he was at Oldham in 2019 but the Light Blues beat them to his signature [Daily Record].
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has decided that he wants Edmundson in his first-team plans next season, but Peterborough would be willing to make a significant six-figure offer if the Ibrox outfit change their stance [Daily Record].
Keep off Peterborough
While we would always continue to sell our players for huge profit to clubs south of the border, Rangers are not keen on doing business for Edmundson right now.
The Manchester-born centre-back spent the second half of last season on loan at Derby County, doing enough to impress the Rams.
The English outfit want him, but a potential takeover reportedly makes that impossible [Daily Record].
Gerrard recognises Edmundson’s talents and potential and is looking to count on him next season.
Given our need for more squad depth next season, the boss’s decision is very understandable.
Rangers have a title defence and Champions League football to look forward to, while we are also aiming to improve in the Cup competitions after last season’s disappointments in both the Scottish League Cup and League Cup.
Having the imposing Englishman available makes sense, and we only hope he would prove himself given the current competition for playing chances at the back.
He featured in just 15 games across all competitions in his first season at Ibrox and will be keen to play consistently next season.
Edmundson will have to earn it, though, and we will be keeping an eye on his progress.
