Alex McLeish reacts to Rangers hunt for Ivan Lepinjica - Exclusive
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has insisted that Rangers need to target “pure specialists” in holding midfield this summer window.
The Bears have been linked with a loan-to-buy deal for Ivan Lepinjica from Rijeka, with midfield a problem area.
Steven Gerrard has been dealing with plenty of injuries, and McLeish believes that a deal like this could be exactly what is needed.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “If he is at the level or the potential level of other strong holding midfielders, of course.
“It is something we need to look at, pure specialists.
“If these players can get to that kind of level, that is exactly what you are looking for.”
Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield have been struggling over the past year, and haven’t been able to string some months together without injuries.
That has led to Gerrard and the Bears over-relying on Glen Kamara and Steven Davis, and we may not be able to do that next season.
This squad doesn’t have many areas left to solve, but this could be one part, as well as possibly left-back, that could leave us with a perfect group.
We failed with a move for Bongani Zungu, everyone knows that, but maybe Lepinjica could solve that and make us forget our mistakes.
