Rangers want to sign Ivan Lepinjica this summer - report

Rangers want to sign Rijeka midfielder Ivan Lepinjica in the summer window, according to Sportske.

The Croatian outlet have reported on their website that the Bears want an initial loan deal with an option to buy the year after.

There are plenty of teams interested in a deal for Lepinjica, with clubs from Spain, Italy and France in the race.

Lepinjica has clearly caught the eye of numerous teams, despite the report claiming he hasn’t had a great year in Croatia.

The 21-year-old is a defensive midfielder and only made 15 appearances in the past year since making his senior jump back in 2018.

Rijeka has an uncertainty in their future, with their finances needing bulking, with plenty of players being linked with an exit.

Given that the club possibly needs to sell players, a loan-to-buy option may not be appreciated by the Croatians.

For any young midfielder around the world, there is no one better to learn from than Steven Gerrard at Ibrox.

As a holding midfielder, Lepinjica could arrive in Glasgow and transform into a player who can push forward and add some goal involvements – something he has proven he can do, this goal being called “incredible“.

Looking at our options, midfield could be one area that needs strengthening.

Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield both suffered injuries throughout the past season, and we may have been lucky that Glen Kamara and Steven Davis were so consistent.

Having that fifth option could be perfect, and Lepinjica could arrive on a loan, take the place left by Bongani Zungu, but hopefully much more effective.
