Alex McLeish responds as Barry Ferguson urges Rangers to sell Glen Kamara

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has tipped Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara to stay at Ibrox beyond this summer and resolve his future.

Contract talks are still continuing with the Finland international, and Barry Ferguson has urged the Bears to sell this week.

McLeish hit back at those and insisted that Kamara would be happy to stay unless a “ridiculous” offer comes in.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “I think you’ve got to be patient. You have to allow the player to assess his future.

“That is the respect that is in the game, it is easy for players to kick the door down and get a move if they’re good enough, and Glen is certainly of that standard.

“Conflicting stories, Barry said that, but I’ve seen that Glen is happy to stay, so the smart money would be on him staying, unless a ridiculous offer comes in.”

Give him what he wants.

It would be easy to suggest that these talks are dragging along over a new contract, but with the EUROs this month, Kamara will be looking elsewhere.

As McLeish mentions, we have to be patient, but when it is one of your best players in the speculation, it is hard to do just that.

Kamara proved that he is miles ahead of any other midfielder in the Scottish Premiership last season, dominating anyone in his path.

This situation will be solved sooner rather than later, and although our fingers are crossed, we have to be confident and let Ross Wilson and Steven Gerrard work their magic.
