Rangers react as Europa League post clip of incredible Allan McGregor save

Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor made a logic-defying save against Slavia Prague in the Europa League last term.

The Light Blues veteran was the star of the first-leg of the last-16, keeping out a bullet header from a Slavia player that appeared bound for the bottom right corner with one of the best catches of the season.

Europa League official Twitter account posted a thread of memorable saves from the 2020-21 campaign, with McGregor’s own against the Czech side starting the compilation.

The Rangers star’s reaction was dubbed ‘sensational’, and the club reacted thus, joking there was no need to showcase saves from other goalies as ‘it does not get better than this’.

The 39-year-old kept Rangers in the tie with the 89th-minute save to ensure the game ended in a 1-1 draw, and we are sure Ondrej Kudela and his teammates are still wondering how that did not go in.

We did not cover ourselves in glory for the second-leg, though, despite the advantage, losing 2-0 and 3-1 on aggregate.

McGregor was crucial to our impressive European run last term, and the Light Blues will be hoping to rely on him as we eye a place in the group stages of the Champions League.

The veteran conceded 30 goals in 42 appearances last season, ending the campaign with 22 clean sheets as Rangers went unbeaten to win the Premiership title.

He emerged the deserved Player of the Year and we cannot wait to see him making physics-defying saves in Europe’s elite competition next season.

Despite his age, there are no signs of him slowing down and we would not be surprised if he remains at Ibrox for at least two to three seasons.
