Rangers star Filip Helander shuts down links to Premier League this summer

Filip Helander has shut down rumours that he will be leaving Rangers for the Premier League in the upcoming summer window.

Aftonbladet have linked both Aston Villa and Leicester City with moves for the Bear enforcer, with Alex McLeish claiming he would cost more than £10million.

The Swede is currently looking to fully recover from his injury blow in the hope of featuring for his country at the upcoming EUROs, with transfer speculation out of the picture.

Speaking via Leicestershire Live, Helander has told a podcast back in Sweden that he loves life in Glasgow and doesn’t see that changing.

“I have not set any goals to play in England,” he said. “I wanted to come to Rangers because it was a big and nice club and try to win something there.

“For me, Rangers are a bit like Malmo, only bigger. You have to win. I’ve had a fantastic season. We broke all kinds of records like clean sheets and the number of goals conceded.”

Love this.

Steven Gerrard will be planning for next season already, and this admission will have given him a huge boost for his squad.

Jack Simpson and Leon Balogun have arrived in the past year, but Helander has been the main partner of Conor Goldson throughout this competition.

The last thing we need is to be selling our best players after the fantastic year and start of this dominant period expected over the embarrassing Celtic.

Helander appearing to snub the Premier League could lead the way for the likes of Ryan Kent to do the same, with Champions League football even coming back next season.

This squad needs to be kept together, and this is the major first step in doing that.
