Barry Ferguson: Rangers must cash in on Glen Kamara
Barry Ferguson has backed Rangers to cash in on Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara in the upcoming summer window.
The Finland international is yet to sign a new contract at Ibrox and is going into the final year of his current deal in the next campaign.
Kicker has linked the Bears with a move for Koln midfielder Salih Ozcan, and with talks opened, Ferguson believes he may be the replacement.
Speaking via the Daily Record, Ferguson believes that Steven Gerrard must plan ahead rather than waiting for the deal to expire.
“Kamara will be going into the final 12 months of his contract and has already been offered a new contract,” he said.
“You don’t want players going into the final 12 months.
“That Salih Ozcan link could be a sign that Glen Kamara might not be committing to Rangers, hence the fact that this guy has been mentioned with a move.
“It looks like Glen Kamara won’t be extending his contract and if not you need to go and cash in, and bring in another midfielder.”
German outlet Kicker claimed in their report that Ozcan would only move to Ibrox if any of our current midfielders move on in the window.
The German youth international is out of contract at Koln and would be available on a free, something that Gerrard has specialised in over the past couple of years.
Kamara has become somewhat irreplaceable in Glasgow since sealing that bargain move from Dundee, and this could be our final chance to secure serious profit.
It is soothing to know that players such as Ozcan have been lined up, and Ferguson knows what it takes to succeed in midfield at Auchenhowie; let’s hope he is right.
