Alex McLeish hits back as Gordon Smith urges Rangers to sell Alfredo Morelos
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has hit back at claims that Rangers should cash in on Alfredo Morelos in the upcoming summer window.
Bears legend Gordon Smith urged his former side to take £20million for the Colombian international, who he claims hasn’t been at his best.
McLeish did admit that the mooted figure would tempt the Ibrox club, but believes that Morelos will stick around and cement his first-choice status.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “They’ve already reinforced their strikers with the likes of Fashion Sakala.
“I don’t see Morelos leaving immediately though. There are possibilities that any strikers could leave, there will be one or two wanting regular football.
“Morelos won’t be too far from first-choice though, and it will depend on how the player feels and how Rangers feel.
“I think they would certainly be tempted by £20million.”
There should be some movement at Ibrox in the final third this summer.
Fashion Sakala will be arriving on his pre-contract deal from Oostende, something that could see the likes of Cedric Itten and Jermain Defoe potentially look elsewhere.
The English veteran was given more chances than the Swiss international, who surely will have been left frustrated in Glasgow.
Steven Gerrard has many choices to make as he looks to continue this dominance, and selling Morelos certainly won’t be on that list.
