Alex McLeish: Rangers could sign 'extremely valuable' Lewis Ferguson this summer
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has reacted to reports that Rangers are wanting to sign Aberdeen midfielder Lewis Ferguson in the upcoming summer.
Football Insider has reported that the Bears were lining up a multi-million-pound bid for the midfielder who has handed in a transfer request.
Ferguson has been the standout performer at Pittodrie in recent years, and McLeish believes he knows what it takes to succeed in Scotland.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “They do have to play in the Champions League, too.
“They will be looking not to rely on Davis, Lewis has still got time on his side to reach that level, but he has proved himself to be a really strong player in the Scottish League.
“In terms of reinforcement for Rangers squad, the guy who will need to make that decision is Steven Gerrard, and if he is at the right level.
“Scottish players are extremely valuable when knowing how to succeed in the league.”
Get it done.
This could be the perfect summer move.
We can’t think of many better Scottish talents right now, just look at how well David Turnbull has done in a miserable season for Celtic.
Ferguson would become even better than that under Steven Gerrard, and in a squad that isn’t crumbling and lacking that winning mentality.
With close links to Derek and Barry Ferguson at Ibrox, surely both will be pushing for the sensation to make the switch to Glasgow and quickly.
We cross our fingers that Gerrard can get this deal over the line.
