Alex McLeish: Joe Aribo would not leave Rangers to join Galatasaray
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has shut down rumours of Joe Aribo leaving Rangers to join Galatasaray in the upcoming summer window.
Fotomac have recently reported that the Turkish side had made contact with the Bears, enquiring over a potential price for the Nigerian international.
McLeish believes that Galatasaray aren’t big enough to lure Aribo away, with the playmaker only getting better under Steven Gerrard.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “I don’t see that being a big another lure to take Joe away from Ibrox.
“The Turkish League is at a similar level to Scotland’s top teams, but I definitely don’t see him leaving to go to Galatasaray.
“He is a very versatile player, he’s a very technical player and he has learned everything this year, he’s learned how to track back, he does the filling in positions.
“Aribo has added a lot to his game under the tutelage of Steven Gerrard.”
Aribo has been sensational since arriving from Charlton under Gerrard, with Tam McManus even labelled him “outstanding“.
The Nigerian star has proved his worth massively, and he did that, even more, when filling in at left-back towards the end of the season when Borna Barisic was injured.
Galatasaray were swiped aside at the start of the season, as we knocked them out of the Europa League qualifiers, so why would this move be attractive?
The Gers now have the Champions League insight, and that is something that will keep most of our superstars at Ibrox for the next year at least.
McLeish is spot on, this isn’t a good move, and Aribo will be going nowhere.
