Kris Boyd raves about James Tavernier, claims he has proved critics wrong
Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd has picked captain James Tavernier in his top five Rangers players of the season.
Tavernier is accompanied by four Gers teammates in the list, but Boyd was particularly glowing in his praise of the right-back.
He explained how Tavernier has proved a lot of people wrong and helped his team through his skill and in his role as captain.
In his column for Sky Sports, Boyd wrote, “His crossing into the box, his goals, and people will say they are penalty kicks but to show the technique and to stand up and take them having missed a few and then going back to take them again, he’s been superb.
“It’s been a terrific season for Tavernier as a captain that has led Rangers to that historic 55th title and stopped Celtic’s domination.
“A lot of people have criticised him in the past, but he’s going to have the last laugh. He will be the man that lifts the title for Rangers.”
It will be great to see Tavernier lift the trophy on Saturday as he has been with us on this incredible rise for some time.
His own game has improved as Rangers have got better and there is not a player better suited to lift the league title, except for Allan McGregor perhaps.
Tavernier has contributed in so many ways too, with great goals and extraordinary assists, while also making a key contribution to our stellar defence.
We are proud to see how far he has come and look forward to him strutting his stuff in the Champions League next term.
It will be interesting to see if his role changes at all with the emergence of Nathan Patterson, and whether Steven Gerrard will look to get them both in the same team.
Nurturing Patterson is the next task for the skipper and we are encouraged by what that relationship could produce.
