Boyd and Hutton congratulate Allan McGregor as he is named SPFL player of the year
Former teammates Kris Boyd and Alan Hutton rushed to congratulate Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor after he was named SPFL player of the year.
It has been some season for the 39-year-old, who has dazzled in the league and in Europe with wonderful saves and performances.
He has played a major role in the title win with key saves against Celtic and Hibernian, amongst others, to ensure Gers have maintained an unbeaten league campaign.
In 24 league appearances McGregor has conceded just eight goals, keeping 16 clean sheets along the way.
Boyd responded to the news on Instagram with clapping emojis while Hutton offered his congratulations, likening McGregor to a “fine wine”.
There were many candidates amongst the Rangers players to win the award but McGregor deserves to win, particularly as this could be his last chance given he is near retirement.
We should give a special mention to Steven Davis and James Tavernier too, though.
Their consistency epitomises how the team as a whole have performed and if not for their leadership we could have buckled at some point.
Tavernier has been simply incredible with 11 goals and 10 assists in the league from right-back, while Davis also has not put a foot wrong in midfield.
The fact McGregor was deemed better than that pair shows how magnificent he has been, and we could not be happier for him.
We hope he parties long into the night on Saturday as he lifts his first title in a decade.
