Alex McLeish picks Allan McGregor as Rangers Player of the Year - Exclusive
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has picked out Allan McGregor as his Rangers Player of the Year ahead of the final day clash with Aberdeen.
The Bears will lift the Scottish Premiership title this afternoon at Ibrox and could finish the season as invincible, as well as passing 100 points.
McGregor has been at the heart of this magnificent defensive campaign, with McLeish labelled his efforts as “Incredible.”
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “That is incredible.
“Unbelievable, but McGregor is at that level. I think he’s the Player of the Year, Rangers have got a lot of guys with great quality, Tavernier has missed a couple of months.
“Others have excelled, but when I say he’s Player of the Year, it sounds like he has saved Rangers in every game, but it’s just the calmness he gives to the team and when he is called upon, his concentration and position is absolutely 100%.”
It is easy to look past McGregor given our dominance of every single team domestically in the Scottish Premiership this season.
Despite that, we have to admit that he has saved us on more than one occasion in-between the sticks, with numerous incredible saves.
We all remember that save at Slavia Praha, and his performance against Celtic at Ibrox only last month; those were both amazing moments.
McGregor won’t want to accept this as an individual accolade should he win, as we all know he is a straight-talker, who will praise his teammates.
Anyone in this current squad could take home the award, but it would be special for the veteran Greegsy to be handed the accolade after the perfect year.
