Rangers loanee Brandon Barker confirms fitness boost, one more chance to impress

Rangers loanee Brandon Barker has confirmed that he will return from injury for Oxford against Blackpool next Tuesday.

Barker has used this loan spell effectively, and even took home the award for the Goal of the Season for his strike against Crewe last month.

The Bears outcast has been suffering from not only a hamstring problem but an issue with his knee at the same time away from Ibrox.

Speaking to the Oxford Mail, Barker confirmed that being given the rest has helped him recover fully in the past week.

“It came a bit too soon for my knee and my hamstring,” he said.

“I wasn’t 100 per cent, but I was still ready to go if called upon and the gaffer made the decision not to risk it.

“It was a great decision, it has given me an extra week to settle and now I’ll be absolutely ready for the playoffs.”

Watching on.

With our season finishing on Sunday as we lift the Scottish Premiership title, all eyes will quickly shift to the next campaign already.

Steven Gerrard will be watching the likes of Barker and Glenn Middleton, who will both by fighting for the same potential spot in the squad.

Middleton drew first blood on Sunday with his masterclass for St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup semi-final, and another shining display could guarantee him that spot.

Barker will need to shine for Oxford in the League One play-offs and play a huge role in the potential promotion party.

Winning the goal of the season proves he has that special factor, but the winger needs to show more consistency to make it at Ibrox.
