Derek Ferguson reacts to Rangers signing Fashion Sakala this week
Derek Ferguson has reacted to Rangers announcing the signing of Fashion Sakala from Oostende this week.
The attacking speedster has joined on a pre-contract deal, and will move to Ibrox in the summer in a free transfer move from Steven Gerrard.
Ferguson has heard that Sakala is “rough” around the edges, and could take some time to settle into life in the Scottish Premiership.
Speaking on the Blues Brothers Podcast on Monday evening, Ferguson had a warning for the Bears fans expecting immediate answers.
“I’ve got faith,” he said.
“What I’m hearing is that he is a little rough around the edges, so listen, he must have the ingredients there to obviously come to our club and do the business.
“I’m looking forward to him like any other fan. We’ll watch him in pre-season and see what he is all about, see him in the Light Blue jersey – he knows the size of the club.”
If this season is Sakala still being rough around the edges, we can’t wait to see him at his best after settling into life in Glasgow.
Belgium’s Pro League play-offs have started, and in two games, the 24-year-old has already scored once and assisted a couple of goals against Mechelen and Standard Liege.
Sakala scored 14 goals in the normal season and is ready to be unleashed in Scotland and the Champions League in the next campaign.
With Cedric Itten being stockier and struggling, Sakala’s smaller build with remarkable pace could be a real weapon for the Bears.
Ferguson appears buzzing despite his “rough” verdict and that has to be something to look forward too, bring it on.
