Tam McManus thrilled by Rangers loanee Glenn Middleton on Sunday afternoon

Tam McManus was left thrilled by Rangers loanee Glenn Middleton after his stunning contribution for St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup on Sunday.

The winger has been getting all the headlines this weekend after his 25-minute cameo sent his loan side into their second domestic cup final this season.

Middleton assisted the opening goal before smashing home an unstoppable free-kick past Jak Alnwick in the St Mirren goal.

Speaking on PLZ Soccer’s Football Show this afternoon, McManus was the latest pundit to shower praise on the loanee at McDiarmid Park.

“I thought he was excellent when he came on,” he said.

“I thought he was a real bright spark. He’s getting game time at St Johnstone and he’s taking advantage of it, it was a great strike.

“As you say, the way he hit it to dip it and get it over the wall, not sure about the goalkeeper. Great strike, he ran the ball into the corner, he was taking people on.

“I thought he was excellent.”

One more.

With no game for the Bears this weekend, it was typical that one of our own still stole the headlines after this crazy season at Ibrox.

Middleton needs to get his head down for the big final ahead, as well as the final two games of the season as he looks to prove himself further.

Doing it on the big stage in these cup games will delight Steven Gerrard, who has demanded more from his rotated squad in the domestic competitions this season.

The winger has to keep his feet on the ground as he gets people excited back in Glasgow, as nothing is guaranteed in a squad that has nearly gone all season unbeaten with only two left to play.
