Ferguson applauds Steven Gerrard Rangers success
Sir Alex Ferguson is a big admirer of Steven Gerrard and has nothing but positives to say about his stint as Rangers manager.
Gerrard led Gers to the Scottish title this year and Ferguson applauded his handling of the job on and off the pitch.
He paid particular attention to praising Gerrard’s conduct in press conferences, suggesting he has nailed the art form since taking over at Ibrox.
In an in-depth interview with The Guardian, Ferguson said of Gerrard, “Oh, he’s done magnificent.
“He really has, both on and off the field. A press interview can lose you your job in management.
“But Steven’s press conferences are fantastic. He’s cool, he’s composed, he gives the right answers. He’s really top because it’s an art.”
Led by example
Gerrard deserves this big praise from Ferguson, who has hit the nail on the head with regard to Stevie G’s conduct in press conferences.
It has been a very pressurized season for obvious reasons, but the Gers boss has always remained composed and focused on the job at hand.
There have been times when he could easily have lost his cool too, such as the period around February when the SFA seemed to be retroactively suspending our key players after every game.
But instead Gerrard handled the fan and media expectation as if he was Fergie himself, and he deserves credit for that.
He is happy to take criticism and deflects negative attention away from his players, allowing for a harmonious squad where everyone is pulling in the same direction.
That is a difficult task, particularly when stopping Celtic’s march to a tenth consecutive title is on the line, so we are delighted to have Gerrard with us in Glasgow.
