We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has been thrilled by the news that Rangers are lining up a new contract for Conor Goldson at the end of this season.
The Daily Record have reported that the Bears enforcer is set to sign a new long-term deal at Ibrox, following in the footsteps of James Tavernier.
Goldson has been everpresent under Steven Gerrard this season, something McLeish believes proves he deserves this new deal.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “Yeah, he’s a great season.
“Again, we have spoken about him so many times which indicates that he’s had a really good consistency level that you would want off a defender.
“That’s a credit to Steven and Gary in the backroom staff, and also to the education of the mental side to play for Rangers and win trophies.
“Now they have gone past that hurdle, they will now feel night and day different.”
Goldson has been phenomenal this season.
The former Brighton man has seen his partner switch between Filip Helander and Leon Balogun, but he is always the one who stays in the defence.
McLeish has always been a huge fan of Goldson and has previously insisted that a new contract would see the defender’s value rise to £50million.
That would be a gigantic figure for someone plying their trade at Ibrox, but it is a figure laid out to scare anyone from coming in for the colossus.
Goldson is here to stay, and this would be another amazing update in this incredible season.
