Alex McLeish: Allan McGregor would sign new Rangers contract past 21/22 season
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has insisted that Allan McGregor would sign a new contract that would keep him at Rangers past the 2021/22 season.
The veteran keeper has already put pen-to-paper on a new deal for the next campaign and consistently proves himself on a weekly basis.
McLeish admitted that McGregor is clearly thriving at Ibrox, and believes that he makes his performances look easy after another big display against Celtic.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “I know Greegsy well.
“I’m sure he will definitely sign a new contract and he will play on because you see the passion that he shows.
“You see when he makes a big save, he tears into someone. Again, it is always good having experience between the sticks, he knows where to be when a move is building up.
“By and large, he will be in the right position and make it look easy.”
McGregor has easily proven himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Scottish Premiership, not just this season, but of all time.
The veteran consistently defies physics when making consistently huge saves at Ibrox, and it is at the stage where it doesn’t surprise us.
As McLeish said, he knows McGregor well and it gives us comfort and confidence that he believes the keeper would sign another contract past next season.
We obviously have to see how it goes next year, but another campaign of dominance and silverware would make it almost impossible to retire.
