We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has backed Rangers to continue their dominance against Celtic in the Scottish Cup clash on Sunday afternoon.
The Bears entertain their rivals in the latest instalment of the Old Firm after smashing Cove in the previous round with complete ease.
McLeish believes that Celtic will be brimming with confidence though and that the Gers will have enough to beat them in a competitive 2-1 victory.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “I do fancy Rangers.
“I just think that they have that kick up the backside from the win against Hibernian, the thing is they’re winning these games that they would previously have lost.
“They are so resilient, and despite Celtic making a little comeback, their showing in the last Old Firm was quite good.
“You must think that Celtic have a good bit of confidence, but I see Rangers continuing their dominance; 2-1.”
Best team in Scotland?
John Kennedy made a fool of himself this week when suggesting it was Celtic, despite the huge 20-point gap between the sides in the Scottish Premiership.
That counts for nothing this afternoon, though.
Steven Gerrard will know that this is a one-off and that it is the only remaining chance the Hoops have of lifting any silverware this season in our shadow.
The Gers will be desperate themselves to lift a domestic double after so many years of torment, and everything is pointing towards an absolute cracker at Ibrox.
We will side with McLeish, although we hope it is by a bigger distance.
