Charlie Adam gushes over Allan McGregor, suggests Scotland should call him up

BBC Sportsound pundit Charlie Adam has been wowed by Allan McGregor’s form and believes the Rangers star deserves a recall to the Scotland side.

McGregor’s recent form has earned him a new contract but the prospect of representing his national team is unlikely as he last played for Scotland in 2018.

Despite that, Adam feels McGregor is one of the best players in his position in the UK and has never played better.

Rangers

He told talkSPORT Breakfast with Alan Brazil, “I would be calling Allan McGregor back up.

“He’s in the form of his life, he’s playing well.

“Allan McGregor is the best goalkeeper at the moment, you could put him in the top ten in the UK of goalkeepers at the moment, how he’s played this season.”

Keeping him fresh

McGregor undoubtedly deserves a Scotland return but we are happy enough for him to sit out as it benefits us.

The goalkeeper has spent the last two weeks recuperating after a tough spell of playing multiple times a week on occasion, rather than playing in three more games with Scotland.

Rangers

By missing out on international duty McGregor is able to keep fresh and that may be why he is still performing brilliantly at 39.

If McGregor can maintain his sharpness by only playing for Rangers then we are all for it.

Nevertheless, it is good to see the veteran getting plaudits.

Alan Brazil responded to Adam by saying “what a season he’s [McGregor] had” – and that’s coming from a big Celtic fan.

There is no disputing McGregor’s ability and he is proving week in week out that he is still capable of performing at the highest level.
