Barry Ferguson believes Alfredo Morelos will stay at Rangers this summer as there are signs he is happier than he has ever been.

The Colombian’s future is in doubt as Steven Gerrard will reportedly not stand in his way if he wishes to leave [The Scotsman].

Lille made an offer for Morelos last year and the 24-year-old may want to leave after finally claiming the Scottish title.

However, Ferguson argues Morelos is happy at Gers and says it would take a big bid to let him leave.

In his column for the Daily Record he wrote, “Alfredo Morelos winning the Player of the Month award is another sign that the striker is in a right good place at the moment.

“And unless a crazy offer comes in for him – by that I mean something north of £20million – I’d like to think he will still be there knocking them in.

“A number of people thought Morelos would be off at the end of the season but I’ve looked at him over the last four to six weeks and I don’t think he’s ever looked happier at Ibrox.

“His overall game has improved and he looks to me as though he’s playing with a smile on his face.

“I like that he has an edge to him but we’re seeing him looking happier now and even things like doing interviews in English is a sign he’s settled and happy here.”

Future in doubt?

Morelos may have been named the Scottish Premiership Player of the Month for March this week but we do not think it will make a difference in deciding his future.

It does show how impressive he has been since his return from suspension but it could actually be indicative of a player putting himself in the shop window.

Also, every Rangers player should be happy right now after wrapping up number 55 so unfortunately we do not share Ferguson’s optimism.

Rangers need to sell players in summer according to Stewart Robertson [BBC] and Morelos is arguably our biggest asset.

It may make sense to let the striker go in order to keep Joe Aribo, Ryan Kent and other key players.

Morelos could even take the decision out of our hands by demanding a move – Gerrard is surely unlikely to make him stay yet another year after what happened last summer.

We of course hope he stays but would not be surprised if Morelos finally got his move away.

In other Rangers news, a defender Gers are reportedly keen on has shared a big update on his future.
