Glen Kamara lawyer: Police have enough evidence to charge Kudela

Glen Kamara’s lawyer Aamar Anwar has said that he’s convinced there is enough evidence for Ondřej Kúdela to be charged with a criminal offence.

Talking on the White & Jordan Show on Wednesday morning, he said that the Crown Prosecution Service wouldn’t even need to speak to Kudela again.

“We very much expect him to be charged, obviously he was playing in Cardiff last night, people were expecting him to be questioned, but witnesses have been taken from witnesses, they’ve collated CCTV, they have spoken to corroborating witnesses such as Mr Zungu who heard what happened,” Anwar said.

“So under Scot’s law I suspect very much what we have is what’s called sufficiency of evidence to charge Mr Kudela without needing to speak to him.”

Anwar said the offence would be one similar to a breach of the peace and that Kudela would be charged with a racially motivated offence.

“He can expect then even if he’s not been questioned at this stage to potentially have a charge, a report saying that he will be charged and then be given a date on which he’s required to appear at Glasgow Sherrif’s court,” Anwar added.

Asked about Kudela returning to Scotland Anwar said, “I would hope so. In terms of Police Scotland they have a zero-tolerance approach to racism, as do the Crown Prosecution Service in Scotland.

“At this point in time, I suspect very much in terms of what I’ve seen of the videos and the statements that the police have sufficiency in order to go ahead with the basis of a charge against Mr Kudela and more than enough for him to return to Scotland and face the courts.”

Police is one thing but UEFA must act

We don’t think Kudela had any idea of what was going to come down on him when he went over to Glen Kamara and put his hands over his mouth to whisper something.

This case is not going away and UEFA are going to have to be seen to act.

Kudela played in Cardiff last night and was on the end of an elbow from Gareth Bale.

According to Joe, commentators at the time said, “I’m sure there will be large sections of the football community that won’t be too upset to see him take a blow to the face.”

This could easily happen again, with a high-profile Euros on the horizon.

You’re not going to find any Rangers fans who were unhappy at what Bale did but it’s more important that UEFA acts and bans him from the game, if found guilty.

A message has to go out that this is not in any way acceptable anywhere, let alone on a football field.

The bid to kick racism out of sport can’t be just lip service and Kudela is in some very serious trouble.
