Ianis Hagi is wanted by Lazio and Rangers must avoid mistake in selling him on the cheap
Ianis Hagi is wanted by Serie A giants Lazio and Rangers must be careful not to sell the winger for peanuts.
Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport report the Romanian would cost around £8.5million – that is a big worry.
Sure, it means Gers would make a profit on the 22-year-old but Hagi is a very talented player and we could surely get a lot more for him.
We may need to sell players in the summer but we are still in a position of strength when it comes to negotiation.
Hagi is settled at Ibrox and has never made murmurings about wanting to leave.
His current contract runs until 2024 too and that means we can afford to keep him a little while longer – before his value depreciates.
Under Gerrard, the winger is consistently improving and we are now a successful outfit having clinched number 55 whilst also reaching the Europa League round of 16.
Unlike Lazio, we would also be able to offer Hagi Champions League football next term.
The Rome side are currently seventh and it seems unlikely they will finish in the Serie A top four.
With that said, Ross Wilson must respond with a big demand if Lazio – or any other club – make an approach for Hagi’s services.
£8.5m is not enough for us to lure a player of Hagi’s ability or future potential and we believe a fee of around £15m – £25m is more appropriate.
Moreover, demanding such a big price means we may only have to sell one key player this season.
So if Hagi was to leave, it should mean the likes of Joe Aribo and Ryan Kent stick around.
And since Hagi is not always first-choice that is something we can live with.
That being said, it would be disappointing if Hagi left after all the work we have put in to improve him.
