Stuart McCall noticed that Gerrard had lengthy conversation with Slavia Prague’s Simon Deli
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard made a point to speak to Slavia Prague defender Simon Deli straight after full-time, according to BBC pundit Stuart McCall.
Thursday’s clash ended with controversy after Glen Kamara accused Ondřej Kúdela of racism during the second half.
His outrage was evident and Gerrard made a point to talk to Deli, who likely heard what was said as he was standing close to the two players.
McCall told BBC Sportsound, “That was really significant at the end of the game Steven Gerrard going over and making a point with their number four, was it [Simon] Deli?
“He must have spoken to him for ten or 15 seconds and explained so something’s gone back to Steven and he’s had a chat and then he’s had a chat with the coach.
“There will be a lot more to come in the aftermath of this.”
Remaining composed
It was a very difficult night at Ibrox for both Gerrard and his players but he showed a great deal of composure directly after the game and in his press conference.
The manner of defeat must have been hard to take but he made a point of shaking every Slavia Prague defender’s hand.
He will be disappointed that his team did not show what they are truly capable of in both legs.
Red cards to Kemar Roofe and Leon Balogun also hindered the side significantly.
And the incident with Kamara turned the whole tie even more sour, but he has dealt with it well.
Hopefully the conversation with Deli leads to something positive.
Gerrard has called on UEFA to act but they may only be able to charge Kúdela if witnesses come forward from his own team.
Nevertheless, we are proud by Gerrard’s response and hope justice prevails.
