Trevor Sinclair in ill-time jab at Old Firm existence ahead of Rangers v Celtic

Trevor Sinclair has shown his true colours ahead of Rangers’ clash against Celtic at Parkhead on Sunday.

Steven Gerrard’s men will arrive in Glasgow’s East End as Premiership champions for the upcoming Old Firm derby – something which fans of Celtic refuse to acknowledge exists.

Former West Ham and England player Sinclair has now divulged into one of the biggest jokes in Scottish football by also claiming the Old Firm is dead at the worst possible timing.

In the middle of a serious discussion about the Scottish government, fans potentially turning up at Celtic Park this weekend and the disrupted vigil for Sarah Everard, Sinclair thought it was fitting to take a swipe about the existence of the Old Firm.

As shown on talkSPORT’s YouTube account on Wednesday [1hr37], he said: “Obviously the Old Firm died in 2012 when Rangers went into administration. This is the Glasgow Derby, the rivalry is still there. But it’s on a different level now because of the success Celtic have had

There’s a time and place for bringing up stuff like that and that wasn’t the time at all.

But just to switch this back to Sinclair, he made that claim on talkSPORT despite not holding that view just a matter of months ago when Rangers won 2-0 at Parkhead in October courtesy of a brace by defender Connor Goldson.

As shown in a screenshot by a Rangers fan on Twitter, it wasn’t that long ago Sinclair was calling it the ‘Old Firm’.

Earlier this month, Celtic even trademarked the term ‘Old Firm’ alongside Rangers, which pretty much shows they acknowledge the existence of it.

They’re the gift that keeps on giving. Everyone associated with that club seems to find a way to embarrass themselves one way or another.

Sinclair has nailed his colours to the mast, he prefers Celtic over Rangers and while we don’t have any issue with Englishmen supporting a team either side of the Old Firm, they could at least be consistent and avoid pandering to a set of fans in the middle of a more serious discussion.

In other Rangers news, Ross Wilson and his scouts are delighted with this loanee.
