Ross Wilson delighted with Rangers loanee McPake at Harrogate

Ross Wilson is delighted with the progress Rangers forward Joshua McPake has made on loan at Harrogate Town in the last couple of months, according to the Daily Record.

McPake, 19, spend the first half of the season at Morton but switched to English League Two club Harrogate in January and has since made 14 appearances and scored two goals for the Yorkshire minnows.

It is understood director of football Wilson and his team of Rangers scouts have been blown away by McPake’s development south of the border and he’s expected to return to Ibrox at the end of the season amid interest from QPR and Bristol City.

Coatbridge-born ace on fire

McPake had somewhat of a mixed start to the season when he was on loan at Morton in the Scottish Championship.

He started once and came off the bench three times in the Betfred Cup and started six of eight league matches for the Cappielow club.

It seemed that moving from a mid-table Championship club to a team in England’s fourth-tier that was widely expected to be relegated to the non-league would be a backwards step but McPake hasn’t shown that at all.

In Harrogate’s first season in England’s Football League, they sit 11th in League Two, well above the relegation places.

McPake’s arrival in January has played a role in that with the Scotland Under-19s attacker starting all but one match since his debut for Harrogate on January 9.

He’s scored against Tranmere and Colchester and is fully aware he needs to shine at Harrogate in order to succeed in the future at Ibrox.

Speaking to BT last month, he said: “It’s about sacrifices, these are the sacrifices you need to make. Sometimes you need to leave if you want to get to your end goal.

“I’m only 19 but going out on loan makes you more mature because you’re playing with older players, it naturally rubs off on you and I do feel I’ve matured a lot.”

McPake’s deal at Ibrox expires at the end of next season but based on his spell in Yorkshire, you’d imagine Wilson and the powers that be at Ibrox will get him tied down to a new one as soon as they can.

In other Rangers news, Ally McCoist laughed in Chris Sutton’s face after his bitter rant about this Ibrox ace.
