Leon Balogun drops contract teaser as he believes his ‘future lies with Rangers’
Leon Balogun believes his future lies with Rangers and that means the defender could sign a contract extension.
His current contract is due to expire in the summer but he is keen to remain at Ibrox and play Champions League football next season.
There has been no formal offer of an extension to his deal yet but the 2020 summer signing has been praised by Steven Gerrard throughout the season.
He has also featured in 18 out of 27 league games this term, which hints that Gerrard may be keen to keep him.
In an interview with Sport1, Balogun said, “With Rangers we are first looking at the Champions League, which could jump out if we successfully qualify. Who wants to miss this?
“When I stop playing football, I will return to Germany. If that happens before then, I don’t mind. But my near future lies with Rangers.”
Give him a new deal
Balogun is a good player to have in the squad so we are keen for him to sign a new deal.
He provides experience and versatility and has never moaned about a lack of starts or being played out of position – he recently filled in for James Tavernier at right-back.
Instead, he has shown a positive attitude and always done well when called upon.
He seems to be enjoying life in Glasgow and clearly wants the best for Rangers – we need individuals like that in the squad.
With the futures of Steven Davis and Allan McGregor also up in the air currently it is important we tie down the more senior stars.
Balogun fits into that category and is likely a good influence for younger defenders like Nathan Patterson and Jack Simpson.
As a result, we should sit down with Balogun soon and confirm him for next season.
The sooner plans are in place to defend our title, the better.
