David James explains hilarious way Jermain Defoe celebrated winning 55 with Rangers

David James has explained how he was inundated with pictures sent to him by Jermain Defoe after Rangers won the league at the weekend.

The Gers beat St Mirren on Saturday before Celtic’s draw with Dundee United confirmed what many of us had known for a while, Rangers had won the league.

Former England goalkeeper James spoke to Sky Sports News about the reaction of Defoe and what 55 meant to Rangers fans.

Speaking on The Football Show, (11/3/21 11:00) James said, “[It will mean] everything, everything to all the Rangers supporters and all the players.

“Put it this way, Jermain Defoe sent me 40 odd pictures with the 55 plaque.”

James was laughing as he mentioned Defoe’s antics after the title was confirmed and it is easy to see why Defoe was so happy with the title win.

This was the first trophy Defoe had won during his professional career.

Technically.

So 55 was the first trophy Defoe had been around to win and he can claim to have helped us win it as well with his cracking goal against Livingston earlier this season.

No wonder the 38-year-old was buzzing after the title was confirmed, he could finally have that moment of celebration he had been craving for his whole career.

We’re happy for our veteran forward and we’re also glad he felt the need to send James so many pictures of the 55 plaque.

He clearly loves the club and whether he stays or goes in the summer he has written his name in Ibrox folklore.
