Exclusive: Alex McLeish questions potential Rangers charge for Nathan Patterson

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has questioned a potential SFA charge for Rangers defender Nathan Patterson this season or beyond.

The young Bears talent broke COVID-19 protocols but has yet been banned by the SFA or the club, who have used him in games since.

McLeish believes that any potential ban has to be reasonable and that Patterson should be allowed to get on with his career.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “What is the charge? Is he going to be banned?

“There has to be a reasonable outcome in these things. It’s not just because he’s a talented kid, I think that everybody should be treated the same way.

“Let him get on with his life and his career, whether he becomes a great footballer or a constant Rangers player – time will tell.”

The time has passed, and nothing has come up.

It has come to the stage where Patterson has featured numerous times, and the season is quickly coming to an end, so when will the SFA pop up?

There would be no surprises if the charges came, especially given how they have treated other cases this season, such as George Edmundson and Jordan Jones.

McLeish wants Patterson to be given that chance to continue his development, and he hasn’t had a better chance than now with the likes of James Tavernier injured.
