Tony Mowbray issues fierce Celtic reminder to Rangers after No.55 confirmed
Tony Mowbray endured a brief and miserable spell as Celtic manager and has made a desperate attempt to curry favour with their fans with this Rangers jibe.
The Gers are fresh off the back of securing a historic 55th title after their Old Firm foes handed them the Premiership crown after failing to beat Dundee United on Sunday.
Mowbray is currently managing Blackburn Rovers in the English second-tier but he is best known in Ibrox quarters as the man who lost his Celtic job after a 4-0 loss to St Mirren.
Speaking on Sky Sports [08/03/21] and relayed by the Sky Sports Scotland Twitter account, Mowbray was bullish in defeat.
He said: “Rangers fans have had to suffer it for nine years off Celtic supporters and the trophies they’ve lifted, all of them amazing trophies.
“Scott Brown must have sore arms lifting all those trophies for the last nine years so okay, the tables might have turned for this season, Rangers can enjoy it for a few weeks and then when it starts again that’s the competition.
“They [Celtic] will react.”
No comparison
Mowbray is harping on about nine-in-a-row as if they were all achieved against Rangers.
In reality their first was during the season we were placed into administration before being forced into the lower echelons of Scottish football by the authorities.
We spent the following four seasons outside the top flight as the green side of Glasgow threw their wallet at a league lacking any competitors.
After our promotion back to the Premiership in 2016 we endured some rocky spells as we acclimatised back to the division and from financial obscurity.
Steven Gerrard then took the reigns in 2018 and after slotting some secure foundations in place he has taken us to new levels that Celtic can only dream of.
Not only have we run away with the league but we are also in the last 16 of the Europa League and eyeing a lengthy stay in the competition.
Meanwhile managerless Celtic will have to battle back from humiliation.
The tables haven’t just turned, they have been well and truly been flipped.
