Jamie O’Hara: I got it wrong on Rangers – they are a huge club
Jamie O’Hara has held his hands up and admitted it after they secured a 55th title – Rangers are a massive football club.
The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has not been shy in sharing his views on the Light Blues, as recently as January he was claiming they would be relegated in the English Premier League [talkSPORT].
But speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast with Laura Woods [6am, 08/03/21] O’Hara admitted the error of his ways.
“Well I got it completely wrong,” he said.
“When you’re down here and down south you don’t realise how big Rangers are until something like that happens.
“When you see that and the atmosphere and the fans…they are a ginormous football club.
“In terms of what they’ve achieved and what they’ve done it’s unbelievable, when you’re down south you’re a bit naive to it.”
Elite-level club
It’s taken him long enough.
Quite why O’Hara had to wait until seeing the scenes on the weekend until he admitted his error is beyond us.
He pretty much confirmed to us all with his Rangers comments that he is just within his English bubble.
But it just highlights how much of an influence our fans have.
Despite being unable to be inside Ibrox during the season we have shown how much of an effect we can have with our outpouring of emotion online and in the streets.
Can you just imagine the next time we’re in Ibrox?
The atmosphere will be electric and O’Hara really will be aware of the size of this institution.
If we were in the Premier League we would not be anywhere near the bottom – we would be challenging at the top.
Kudos to O’Hara for realising he was wrong but perhaps that will act as a reminder to pundits to think and assess before they open their mouths.
