Jamie Barjonas looked set to depart Rangers but a proposed move to Orange County has been called off according to The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell.

The journalist reports that the 22-year-old is now likely to stay at Gers for the remainder of the season and some fans think he might have an unlikely shot at the first-team.

His long-term future at the club is still in doubt though, as he has not made an appearance this term and his current contract expires in the summer.

The move to a United Soccer League Championship side perhaps shows that he’s not cut out for Gers.

Some supporters have expressed that view in response to the news but the fanbase is a little split on the midfielder.

The reasons for the move collapsing have not been disclosed but it is possible Steven Gerrard wanted to keep him around in light of recent events.

Bongani Zungu broke Covid-19 protocol last week and is now likely to have played his last game for the club.

We are in need of a back-up midfielder, therefore, and that is a role Barjonas can fill.

Rangers have a number of strong options in the middle of the pitch – Scott Arfield returned to action against Royal Antwerp on Thursday.

That means Barjonas may still struggle to get any minutes on the pitch but he may have a glimmer of a chance.

Here is how fans have been reacting to the transfer update.
