Supercomputer predicts how far Rangers will go in Europa League & chances of winning it

Top prediction site FiveThirtyEight has delivered its verdict on how far Rangers will go on their European adventure.

It’s good news for Thursday night, with the site giving Gers a 74% chance of getting past Antwerp.

However, they think it’s going to be an uphill struggle from there.

It gives Rangers a 29% chance of making the quarter-finals, an 11% chance of making the semis, 4% for the final and 2% for winning it.

Rangers travel to Belgium for the first leg of the Round of 32 on Thursday night with an 8pm kick-off.

Huge stride forward

You know what? We’re more than happy to take this adventure one step at a time and if we get past Antwerp, then we think our chances of making the quarters will see a significant uptick on FiveThirtyEight.

That we’re even being credited with a chance of winning the competition is a huge achievement.

FiveThirtyEight put Man United as the favourites to win and they’re only 40% to make the quarters and 11% to win it.

AC Milan have been given a 4% chance of winning the Europa League and there are 13 clubs left in with a worse chance than us.

It’s been a huge step forward this season and we’re going to get a shot at taking our new brand of football into the Champions League next season.

There’s plenty of reason to be excited, not just for tomorrow and the Europa League, but for a new period of dominance at the top of the Scottish game.
