Antwerp face striker crisis ahead of Europa clash v Rangers

Royal Antwerp are facing a selection crisis ahead of the clash against Rangers next week, per The Scottish Sun.

Key striker Didier Lamkel Ze is suspended for the tie due to a red card he picked up 18 months ago.

He hasn’t played in the competition since a 4-1 home Europa League defeat to AZ Alkmaar in August, 2019.

Now news has emerged revealing Antwerp’s top scorer Dieumerci Mbokani is also likely to miss Thursday’s match.

The former Hull forward has spent eight matches sidelined with a calf injury and it seems he will not be fit despite taking part in training this week.

The pair have 12 goals between while back-up strikers Felipe Avenatti and Guy Mbenza have scored a combined three goals.

Goalkeeper Jean Butez and midfielder Faris Haroun also look set to miss out.

Making the most of a great opportunity

Rangers have been formidable in defence this season so should fair well against Antwerp’s back-up strikers.

We came up against Avenatti against Standard Liege already this term and he had little influence on the two matches, both of which we won.

The trip to Belgium is a tricky one but this news will surely encourage Steven Gerrard and his squad.

While they will be missing key men, our own Alfredo Morelos could feature for the first time since Hibernian.

We look forward to his return, and hope he can give us the advantage ahead of the second leg at Ibrox.

This is a brilliant opportunity to keep a clean sheet and if we grab an away goal we will be favourites to progress.

That would prove a brilliant result considering Tottenham lost 1-0 at the Bosuilstadion earlier this campaign.

Rangers cannot afford to be complacent, however, and hopefully we go into the match high on confidence after beating Kilmarnock on Saturday.
