Ibrox View: Michael Stewart contradicts himself on BBC Sportscene, anti-Rangers agenda continues

Michael Stewart’s anti-Rangers agenda is becoming more and more clear with each appearance he makes on BBC Sportscene.

In the last month and a half, the former Hibernian and Hearts player has claimed Hibs should have been awarded a penalty at Ibrox in December, claimed Curtis Main shouldn’t have been sent off for a studs-up challenge on Borna Barisic and even suggested the rules should be changed after Ryan Hedges was sent off for Aberdeen against the Gers.

Stewart, a failed former trialist at Ibrox, has now claimed that Scott Brown shouldn’t have been sent off as Celtic beat Kilmarnock on Tuesday.

Brown elbowed Aaron Tshibola but Stewart – to the surprise of absolutely no one – stood up for the Celtic captain.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene last night (Tuesday), he said: “There’s nothing in that. You can clearly see there Scott Brown’s in front of Tshibola, he’s trying to shield from a throw-in.

“All he’s doing is blocking the player off, he’s getting in front of him and you can actually see there his arm’s way below his shoulder.

“He catches him but there’s nothing in that at all.”

After Rangers beat Hibs in December at Ibrox, Stewart said his former club should have had a penalty when Ianis Hagi’s high boot almost made contact with Joe Newell.

At the time, he said: “This is a penalty. It’s dangerous. That’s a penalty kick all day long.”

Hagi didn’t mean to kick Newell in the face and he didn’t kick him in the face either – there was no contact.

But if Brown didn’t mean to elbow Tshibola, why should he get away with it when he actually did make contact?

Football is a contact sport but dangerous contact has to be avoided and Tshibola was lucky there wasn’t more force in Brown’s elbow.

But Stewart needs to get his head straight.

Everything that goes in Rangers’ favour seems to be wrong in his eyes and everything that goes against Rangers’ opponents is also wrong.

And now he’s contradicting himself in favour of Celtic.

Weird, right? Or is that just exactly what we’ve come to terms with now?
