Ibrox View: Deadline-day Rangers signing has perfect chance after major Tuesday update

Rangers were busy on deadline day as they made the deals to sign Jack Simpson and Scott Wright permanent after pre-contract agreements.

Steven Gerrard has added even more squad-depth at Ibrox, and both could even be involved against St Johnstone on Wednesday.

The Bears defensive record has been phenomenal this season, and Simpson couldn’t have arrived in a better environment, and he now has the perfect chance to cement himself.

The Daily Record reported on Tuesday that Nikola Katic has been ruled out until the end of the season with his injury worries.

There was hope that the Croatian was on his way to a return before then, but this now leaves his spot wide open for Simpson to take.

Conor Goldson has cemented his spot, with Leon Balogun and Filip Helander both fighting for that second place in the defence.

With Balogun’s current contract running out at the end of the season too, Simpson will be eager to take advantage of that and Katics’ injury.

Simpson has tasted Premier League experience in the past couple of seasons with Bournemouth, making 11 appearances, and he will want to use that in Glasgow.

In his first interview, the 24-year-old admitted that he liked the ball at his feet and to get his side on the front foot, something that should help him settle in immediately.

With the Europa League set to return this month too, Gerrard will need all the players in his squad to make an impact.

This is the perfect opportunity for Simpson to make his mark.
