Emerson Hyndman sends six-word message to new Rangers signing
Ex-Rangers loanee Emerson Hyndman has congratulated Jack Simpson after the centre-back completed a deadline-day move to Ibrox on Monday.
Rangers had already signed Simpson, 24, on a pre-contract basis from Bournemouth with the view to him heading to Glasgow on Monday.
However, it has now been confirmed that the centre-back has signed for the Light Blues ahead of schedule as they aim to win their 55th Scottish league title.
On Tuesday morning, Simpson took to his personal Instagram account to say he’s “absolutely buzzing” and “proud” to sign for the Gers.
Atlanta United ace Hyndman, who spent part of the 2016/17 season on loan at Ibrox and played alongside Simpson at Bournemouth, replied to Simpson’s post.
He said: “Ayyyyy, let’s go! Enjoy it, bro.”
Simpson accelerated due to Katic blow?
It raised a few eyebrows when it emerged that Simpson would be arriving at Ibrox early because it was initially thought that Nikola Katic would be back from injury soon.
However, the Daily Record has unfortunately reported the 24-year-old will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury he sustained in pre-season training.
With Katic out for the season, Steven Gerrard would have only had Connor Goldson, Leon Balogun and Filip Helander to choose from at centre-back so one or two injuries or suspensions would have played havoc with team selection.
Simpson has a lot to prove at Rangers.
He’s 24-years-old but only played 35 times in senior football across all competitions for Bournemouth after spending his entire career there until now.
You have to wonder why he’s never had a decent loan spell away from the Cherries or attracted attention from elsewhere.
We don’t want to talk Simpson down but nothing about him suggests he’ll be above any of the existing centre-backs in Gerrard’s pecking order.
In other Rangers news, the Gers have agreed to terminate this midfielder’s contract.
