‘Show people’ – Exclusive: Alex McLeish reacts to Scott Wright development after Rangers move

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has claimed that it would have been “unacceptable” for Scott Wright to refuse to play for Aberdeen after confirming his move to Rangers.

The 23-year-old will be making the switch to Ibrox in the summer after signing a pre-contract but continues to feature for the Dons in the meantime.

McLeish admitted that every footballer in those positions should do the same and that you can’t worry about a move-threatening injury or anything along those lines.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “For me, that’s what every footballer should do.

“I’d certainly have done it, I had that mentality. If you go into a game thinking ‘I’m going to get injured’ you’ll play that way.

“You’re a young man, you should be wanting to play every game to impress people and to show people why Rangers have marked him, and also to thank the Dons for the brief career he’s had up there.

“That’s, for me, the way every individual should be thinking. They shouldn’t be saying no, that’s unacceptable.”

Rangers

Aberdeen have drawn back-to-back games 0-0 in the Scottish Premiership.

McInnes started Wright in the first of those against St Johnstone on Wednesday, but he had to settle for 11 minutes of the bench against Livingston yesterday.

Rangers and Steven Gerrard were determined to complete the move this month, but these latest developments further prove that they will have to wait until the summer.

Wright has to play, and six months without football waiting for the switch would only hamper his development ahead of the biggest moment of his career.
