'You would think...' - Exclusive: Alex McLeish reacts as Alfredo Morelos charge confirmed
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has claimed that Rangers forward Alfredo Morelos could well be facing retrospective action for his alleged stamp on Hibernian defender Ryan Porteus.
The Colombian clashed with the defender in the 1-0 win at Easter Road on Wednesday, although no action was taken by Kevin Clancy at the time.
The SFA have charged Morelos with violent conduct since, and he could be facing another three-match ban in the Scottish Premiership.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “We’re refereeing the game after it has finished.
“If there’s retrospective action, you would think that there might be a problem.
“This is the thing, it was suggested that the referee thought it was an accident.”
After his previous ban before Christmas, it will be inevitable that Morelos is going to be banned once again.
We all love El Buffalo for his competitive streak and his ability to play on the line as well as score the goals to hand the Bears points in every game.
This time, he definitely overstepped the line.
With a three-game ban more than likely on the horizon, we are thankful that Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten were both on the bench and impressed against Hibs.
The summer recruitment from Steven Gerrard has protected the Light Blues from this potential problem, with Morelos certainly covered in the worst-case scenario.
