‘Absolute baloney’: Andy Walker rips into Lawwell & Celtic as Simon Jordan talks Gers into story

Sky Sports pundit Andy Walker has ripped into Peter Lawwell after the Celtic executive finally apologised for his club’s disastrous trip to Dubai.

Walker was on the White & Jordan Show (talkSPORT, Thursday, 11am), when he was asked if the apology was enough.

“I think he should have left it after 30 seconds,” Walker said. “The other four minutes were absolute baloney.

“The fact he said Celtic have been affected more by COVID than any other club is ridiculous. Tell that to Kilmarnock… St Mirren… All the lower league clubs have had their seasons suspended.

“He said it was performance-related. The pictures were damning. There was a picture of the manager and players drinking pints by the pool. Supporters must think the club is awash with cash spending hundreds of thousands on this ill-advised trip. Surely a company of that size would do some risk assessment?

“I think it was a forced apology. Apart from the first 30 seconds, it wasn’t enough. Celtic should do better. They’re out of touch.”

Simon Jordan did his best to talk Rangers into the story saying, “Isn’t this just bubbling over because Celtic aren’t going to win the title? If Rangers weren’t running away with it wouldn’t it be less emotive?”

“Possibly,” replied Walker, “but it’s still the wrong thing to travel unnecessarily during this COVID pandemic. Fans can’t see loved ones, fans are struggling to pay for their season tickets.”

Lawwell reads room wrong… again

Walker has been brilliant on this subject and it gives his words more weight as he’s talking about the club he used to play for.

The apology from Lawwell was completely misjudged and has poured more gas on the fire when he attempted to turn Celtic into the victims.

How could he think that was a good idea after everything that’s happened?

You don’t need hindsight for something that was so obviously a stupid thing to do. You need better governance and better decisions. Hindsight is a copout.

What he means when he says this is they didn’t forsee what would happen or the reaction.

Lawwell has now read the room wrong again and tried to make out that Celtic deserve sympathy.

Walker cut through all of that when he labelled it “baloney”. Celtic should spare a thought for the real victims here.

As for Jordan saying that this is only headline news because of Rangers winning the league… We think that’s nonsense and really diminishes and downplays the real victims of COVID.

If Celtic were top of the league we think the outrage would be just as strong.
