‘Unnecessary’ – Aberdeen star slams Rangers after latest Premiership win at Pittodrie

Rangers came away from Pittodrie with three points on Sunday but the Dons haven’t been good losers,  complaining about Gers players trying to influence the referee.

Aberdeen had a player sent off and conceded a penalty in the 2-1 Rangers win, and defender Tommie Hoban has been outspoken about the referee’s decisions.

Ryan Hedges received a red card for the home side and teammate Curtis Main almost followed suit, with a member of the Rangers bench questioning why the ref only gave a yellow (4:26).

Hoban shared his view on the key decision of the first-half against the Gers, telling the Scottish Sun, “The one with Main, I didn’t think there was much in it at all. It might have been a foul.

“All that stuff is a bit unnecessary really. People are always going to try to influence the ref and whether they did or not is open to debate.

“Even the penalty, it probably was a penalty, but for it to be a red card as well I thought was a bit harsh.

“He wasn’t trying to bring him down, it was just a coming together. Players are always going to try and influence the ref, that’s how it is.”

Rangers

Taking advantage

By the rules of the game, the red card was a red card. There’s no point trying to rely on the fact that it might have been an accident.

If Morelos wasn’t brought down he likely would have scored, and since James Tavernier missed the penalty we could feel hard done to, too.

Rangers didn’t let that affect them though and managed to bounce back, taking advantage of the extra man at their disposal.

Furthermore, a member of the coaching staff questioning the linesman about why a red was not given to Main is hardly a reason to complain, either.

The officials judged there to be no wrongdoing from the Rangers bench and that sort of thing happens all the time.

What’s clear is that teams in the Premiership just can’t cope with Rangers on the pitch at the moment and are taking their gripes off it.

The passion shown by everyone at the club is all part of the winning mentality Steven Gerrard has installed at Ibrox.
