‘The truth is…’ – Sky Sports pundit predicts Rangers clash v Aberdeen, makes transfer claim
Sky Sports pundit Andy Walker has predicted Rangers to beat Aberdeen and continue to build on their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership at Pittodrie on Sunday.
Rangers have won 14 consecutive Premiership fixtures and could move a whopping 22 points clear of Celtic at the top of the table if they extend that run to 15 matches in the Granite City this weekend.
It remains to be seen whether or not Steven Gerrard will use the January transfer window to improve his squad and help see out a successful bid to win title number 55.
However, Walker believes that not only will the Gers win 1-0 at Pittodrie on Sunday, but he also tells supporters to not expect much business at Ibrox this month.
“Rangers’ astonishing run continues and a 19-point gap has now opened up at the top of the table after last weekend’s 1-0 victory over Celtic,” said Walker on the Sky Sports website. “Celtic had the better of the game, but there’s always admiration for a team under tremendous pressure who find a way to win.
“The truth is Rangers have found numerous ways to win games this season, you don’t always have to be on top form. I doubt there will be much transfer business in or out at Ibrox, as long as they keep all their best players Steven Gerrard will be happy.
“Pittodrie will provide another tough test for the league leaders and the transfer speculation in the north east is gathering pace. Ross County striker Ross Stewart is on Derek McInnes’s radar, as is former Celtic man Gary Mackay-Steven, recently released by Ronny Deila’s New York City.”
We won 1-0 at Pittodrie on the opening day of the season back in August and we beat the Dons 4-0 at Ibrox in November so Rangers are very much favourites to win this one.
Derek McInnes’ side was depleted by COVID-19 cases when they played in Glasgow several weeks ago and he’ll have a much stronger team to choose from this time around.
Aberdeen has been a tough place for the Gers to go in recent years but we’re confident that if Gerrard’s men can win home and away against both them and Celtic, they can win in their second trip to the north-east this season.
Gerrard will have to make do without a few players though as Kemar Roofe joins Scott Arfield and Ryan Jack on the sidelines.
Ianis Hagi has been in superb form though and is likely to replace Roofe in the attack.
With him in the side, the Dons’ defence can be unlocked and we’d be shocked if we aren’t able to keep the unbeaten league run going this weekend.
In other Rangers news, fans are gutted about this new injury update from Gerrard.
