‘Deludamol’ – Ex-BBC pundit mocks colleague over Rangers-Celtic title claim
Former BBC Sportsound pundit Tam McManus mocked Alan Rough for his deluded comments about the Scottish Premiership title race between Rangers and Celtic.
Rangers moved 19 points clear at the top of the table with a 1-0 win against Neil Lennon’s side at Ibrox on Saturday.
Many have conceded that the title is now firmly in the Gers’ hands – even Chris Sutton believes that Celtic’s hopes of 10-in-a-row are now dead.
However, former Celtic goalkeeper Rough suggests that the title is not over yet and he dreads the thought of Rangers running away with it with so many matches left to play.
“[There are] 57 points still to play for and I know Rangers are so far ahead, it’s a difficult one to defend but as a football, you don’t want to throw in the towel,” Rough said on PLZ Soccer’s latest episode of The Football Show on YouTube.
“I hope Celtic don’t throw in the towel because for us to talk about football for the next five months, if it’s going to be that way, it’s going to be a long, long end to the season.
“I hope there’s some edge to something that we can hang onto and keep us going.”
At the start of the show, Rough explained how he’s been ill for the past couple of weeks.
PLZ host Peter Martin responded to Rough’s claim by saying: “I love you to death Roughie, our friendship will never be affected but clearly the medication you’re on at the moment is really affecting you.”
Former Hibernian player McManus jumped in to simply say: “Deludamol.”
Martin replied: “You’re right, Tam. People are wishing him well and asking him to up the dosage. It’s as simple as that.”
I’ll have what he’s having
There’s no way Celtic can get back into this now, is there?
Lennon’s men have lost both Old Firm derbies this season and even if they win their three games in hand, they will still be 11 points behind the Light Blues.
Rangers are a different beast this season.
Steven Gerrard has his players firing on all cylinders in attack while his defence has been one of the best-performing defences in the whole of Europe.
Only five goals have been scored against the Light Blues this season in the Scottish Premiership, where they have dropped just four points in 22 unbeaten games.
Sure, there have been some sketchy performances but even when they don’t play too well, the Gers are winning games and avoiding defeat. That’s the mark of champions.
However, Celtic have performed badly in a lot of games this season and have either lost or draw those matches.
Rangers will win title number 55 this season. We’ve got no doubt about it anymore.
