‘Most of us would agree…’ – Sir Kenny Dalglish makes Rangers title claim

Sir Kenny Dalglish has warned Rangers the title is not won yet despite the 1-0 win against Celtic on Saturday that sent them 19 points clear at the top.

Callum McGregor’s second-half own goal proved to be the difference between the sides in a match low on quality, giving Rangers a hat trick over their bitter rivals as they have now come out on top in their last three head-to-heads.

The match made it number 22 unbeaten for the Gers in the Scottish Premiership this season as they seem set to runaway with the title and break Celtic hearts of a 10th in a row.

However, in his column for The Sunday Post, Celtic legend Dalglish has questioned how Rangers will deal with the pressure of a substantial lead, saying, “Steven Gerrard and his players are now in a position where it is extremely difficult not to see them go on and win the title.

“Nobody can dispute that they deserve to be in the lead, but it will now be interesting to see how they go and handle it from here.

“How will Rangers react to being so far in front, and with their first title in a decade very much within their grasp?

“Most of us would agree we don’t envisage an almighty collapse, but we don’t know exactly what is around the corner. There is much hard work to be done and really tough away trips on the horizon to the likes of Aberdeen, Motherwell and Hibs.”

Unassailable lead for Gerrard and Co?

The narrow Old Firm victory at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon stretched the gap at the top to 19 points between the Gers and their second-placed visitors.

Celtic do possess three games in hand which, if all won, would close the gap to 10 points.

However, the superiority of Rangers goal difference is probably worth another point, as they have scored 12 more than their rivals and conceded 10 less, giving them a 22 goal swing currently.

It would take a monumental collapse at this stage for Rangers not to win the Scottish Premiership now.

With only four points dropped out of a possible 66 and a mere five goals conceded in 22 games, the Gers are absolutely wiping the floor with the whole league.

The Old Firm rivals are now not set to meet each other until March 20 at Celtic Park, with nine Premiership games scheduled for the Light Blues between now and then.

By the time that fixture rolls around, Gerrard’s side look like they could be out of sight with their crown nestled firmly on their head.
